Welcome to

Urban Desi Women

Our world is a global village and with this unique collection displaying and celebrating the diversity of Beauty all over the world we want to challenge the traditional beauty ideal. Every woman is a manifestation of Shakti: Divine Female Energy and deserves to be seen and treated as such. So feast your eyes and prepare to be dazzled by inspiring, rare and exotic forms of Indian beauty captured in a rich collection of 10.000 nfts!

We care

Urban Desi Women is all about the acceptance and appreciation of Indian feminine beauty in all its manifestations. Unfortunately at the moment India doesn’t have the best reputations when it comes to the safety of women. Gang rapes, acid attacks and other forms of suppression dominate the image presented by international media. So by celebrating Indian beauty we want to establish and contribute to a positive counter-message where India is not demonized when it comes to positioning women, but instead recognized for its rich and spiritual heritage on this topic.

Our Goals

  • Building a collection of unique art representing (Indian) women all over the world
  • Influencing and enriching the public debate on the position of Indian women
  • Operating purchases requested by the Curator’s Club
  • Creating a non-exclusive digital community and movement celebrating feminine power

We empower women

We are all about protecting and promoting the freedom of every woman to be who she wants to be. Without living in fear of being rejected or even attacked. That’s why 10% of all primary sales will be donated to this cause:

  • Chhanv Foundation – To help women recover physically and mentally after having to endure an acid attack

10,000 Urban Desi Women NFTs

Just as every woman is beautiful in her own way, in our collection you will find unique examples of the many ways in which Beauty manifests itself in this day and age. As our mission is to challenge and enrich the traditional Indian beauty standard, indulge and be inspired by the many faces of beauty.

25 Backgrounds

We have made 25 different backgrounds, a beautiful mix of colours and styles. For example we added a background with Mandalas which is the Sanskrit word for Holy Circle. It is a geometric symbol that represent different aspects of the universe which beautifully translates and underlines our message when it comes to feminine aesthetics.

20 Skintones

You will find 20 types of skin tones in our collection, varying from very rare ones to more common and known skin tones. Our goal here is to advocate that while beauty may only be skin-deep, true beauty is a reflection of ones inner self and the story you carry with you. So for example, we have also included skin tones of women affected with a particular skin disease.

27 Hairstyles

The hair layer is a mix of hair (colours), accessories and headcovers. We added a super rare one: The women with Sindhur (red powder between the parting of the hair) a symbol of matrimony and female energy.

15 Make-up styles

We have added different kinds of make-up styles varying from heavy and glamorous blushes to very subtle and natural looks, where the make-up is always considered as a complementary part of a woman’s beauty.

25 Eyes

Apart from different eye make-up styles we have also included various accessories like sun glasses and the traditional Indian Bindi. A Bindi is a dot on the forehead (often red), between the eyebrows, where the third eye is situated. Especially for meditation this is an important focus point as it is seen as the place from where (inner) wisdom can be triggered.

10 Noses

Another traditional symbol of Indian beauty and embellishment is the nose piercing which nowadays also can be seen in Western countries. In India married women can traditionally be seen with nose piercings, but also young girls fancy this type of jewellery a lot.

10 Mouths

All of the Urban Desi Women have their unique beauty and with that goes their natural traits. A particular element is the shape of the mouth and the classical red and pink hues used to accentuate this sensual part of a woman’s appearance. These days we also see nude colours combined with Botox.

32 Modern vs traditional clothing

In our collection we combined western with traditional clothing styles like the saree with traditional jewellery. Especially at weddings you see more of the traditional wear, but often these days styles are also combined with more contemporary details such as, necklaces and tattoos. Even within India there are so many different cultures with their traditional wear and the Indian diaspora all over the world has only contributed to the diversity of fashion inspired by Indian roots.

Meet the creator

My name is Presilla, the creator of Urban Desi Women supported by my power girl “Rocket” we designed these art pieces.
As a mother with roots from India & Surinam and born in the Netherlands, I want my daughter to grow up knowing and understanding that every women, despite the colour of their skin, the way their body looks, or the clothes they wear that she is a beautiful human being.

My goal with Urban Desi women is to empower and support women of “coloured” roots to break barriers and stereotypes.
There are many stereotypes we face daily in the western society as well as within our own cultural society.
We want to connect with likeminded women and build a strong community to support each other and grow worldwide.

We still have a long way to go, but we gain our strength and perseverance from the love and support we receive from the community.
Let’s go and slay this!

FAQ

What’s an NFT?

An NFT stands for “Non-fungible token” and is a fancy way of saying it’s a unique, one of a kind digital item that users can buy, own, and trade. Some NFTs main function are to be digital art and look cool, some offer additional utility like exclusive access to websites or participation in an event, think of it like a rare piece of art that can also act as a “members” card.

What is Metamask? Metamask is a crypto wallet that can store your Ethereum, and is needed to purchase UDW. Having a wallet gives you an Ethereum address (i.e. 0xABCD….1234), this is where your NFT will be stored. Learn more about Metamask and how easy it is to use over here! (https://metamask.io/)

Your UDW NFT will appear in whatever address, or connected wallet you used to purchase the UDW. You can go to https://urbandesiwomen.art/my-UDW.html, connect your wallet, then redeem your high resolution file.

That is ultimately a decision for you to make. We believe UDW have a long life ahead of them, and will be an ever growing and evolving project. However the success of UDW relies on so many factors and variables, no one knows! Hopefully UDW go to the moon, but like anything in life, don’t spend money you can’t afford to not have.
